As I tucked you into bed last night you gently reminded me that it is in fact your birthday tomorrow. I know love, I said as I brushed the hair from your forehead to give you a kiss goodnight. Of course I did not need to be told it was your birthday (or the other 37 birthday reminders you gave me today) but you’re excited. To you SIX is a whole new world full of possibilities and while I know it’s your birthday, I’m not quite sure how time has flown by so quickly. I still remember staring at you in your isolette in the NICU. You seemed so tiny, so fragile looking. I remember being terrified the day we brought you home – I don’t think I slept for a week just to make sure you were still breathing. I remember your sweet baby smiles, the soft curls at the end of your hair, and your infectious giggle. How that teeny little boy is turning SIX  already is beyond me. You’ve certainly grown though – into an intelligent, articulate, energetic, and compassionate boy.

You are our thinker. The wheels are always turning in that head of yours and it’s rare for you to not have something to say. You ask constant questions and want to know about just about everything. You’re very outgoing – you will say hello to anyone and everyone without hesitation – a trait you most certainly do not get from your mother. You love lego and love to build lego letters and leave messages around the house –  the windowsill in our room currently reads “I love you”. You take your role as big brother quite seriously – something your brother and sister will be very grateful for one day. You’ve decided that you prefer to be called Jack as opposed to your previously held nickname of “Jack Jack” because the latter is too baby-like. You love to read, a newly acquired skill for you but one you’re picking up at lightning speed lately. Every night you go to bed surrounded by books in your bed – most of which you’ve read to yourself. You love dance parties – and you’ve got some hilarious dance moves. Every night before bed I ask you to tell me three things that made you happy that day – I remember forgetting one day and hearing the worry in your voice as you ran to the top of the stairs and called me to tell me I forgot to ask you about your happy moments. One day, in the not so distant future, you won’t run out needing to tell me those things so for now I’ll continue enjoying those moments that extend bedtime just a little bit longer knowing that I’ll miss them when they’re gone. Last night you were happy that it was a sunny day to go bike riding, that you got to jump on Ryley’s trampoline, and that Chloe laughed at you when you smiled at her. As always, I’m happy that you are happy and eternally grateful that you are ours.

jackToday I wish you the happiest sixth birthday, Jack Jack 😉 I love you to the moon and back!

I don’t want this to be about “likes” or having the cutest baby, I want it to be about giving someone truly deserving a wonderful gift that they can cherish forever. So with that, here are the details on the Giving Back contest…

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is fighting through an illness, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances, the list goes on. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them a chance to experience complimentary custom photography including a premium sunset family session with digital images plus a stunning 20×24″ woodmount.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a complimentary family session including the digital images! What better reason to show some love could there possibly be?

Open your heart to someone — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

I cannot believe the little teeny baby in the crib below is already 8 months old. Time doesn’t stand still, and it’s flying by significantly faster than I’d like it to. I’ve been soaking up every minute of time I can with this sweet girl because I know that all too soon she will be running around with her big brothers and won’t have much time for snuggles. The blog has therefore been somewhat neglected but I’m hoping to get back into posting – I have an over abundance of past sessions to share and some videos as well!

Since I never did share Chloe’s nursery this seems like a good time to do so 🙂

chloe roomThose frames have since been filled of course (well…except one) and it has not remained this clean and tidy but I hope it’s a space that will grow and adapt with her without huge changes needing to be made 🙂

You came up to me so proudly this morning. Your big boy feet clomping down the hall and the biggest cheeky grin on your face. I didn’t need the reminder but I let you tell me anyway, “Mommy I’m FOUR today!”. I know, love, I know. After (mandatory by me) big squishy hugs and singing happy birthday you left the room, quick to start the next item on your agenda.  The squishy little baby I held just four years ago, with the biggest cheeks and softest tufts of blonde hair, has grown up into a little boy. A kind, generous, thoughtful, and loving little boy.

You are our “captain intensity”, you do everything at 110%. You love fiercely and unconditionally, and when you are upset – you’re very upset. You’re shy in new surroundings, but once you get going you’re LOUD. You love to use your imagination. Your favourite item of clothing is a ratty old Spider-man costume that has seen much better days. You are a lover of small animals and bugs, slowly saving every worm on the sidewalk from drying out in the sun. You are my snuggler, constantly telling me you will love me for one trillion days. You love playing chasing games with daddy and your brother. Did I mention that you’re loud? We give constant reminders to lower your voice or ask you to stop yelling, but deep down I know that one day many years from now I’ll be sitting in an eerily quiet house wishing I could hear your thunderous imaginative dinosaur roar just one more time.

connorToday I wish you the happiest of fourth birthday Wookie. I love you sweet boy, and I will love you for a trillion days plus one.

Alright, enough chit chat…here’s the good stuff 🙂
